It is bit overwhelming as number of controls, needed to make it scientifically correct and flexible, is relatively high. However, one needs to understand the philosophy of this package - from early stages it is "GUI driven" package with as many controls as "appropriate". Irena was originally intended for materials science but as users proposed new tools, it has grown well beyond the original scope. There are even users, who reuse Irena code in their own programming and that makes them more productive. That is great, as there actually are Irena users, who read the source code and propose improvements, changes, and provide independent verification of the code. javascript:emoticon(':!:')įurther major advantage of Igor Pro is, that the software is distributed as ASCII source code compiled before use on user computers, and therefore all of the Igor packages are by default open source. And e-mail reply by support on Sunday at 11pm is common. Really, I requested new function for my needs and I had beta version on my computer 24 hours later, and updated Igor version was out in few weeks. And Wavemetrics user support is second to none. ![]() But the features of Igor Pro are very much worth the price, which is compared to other similar platforms very reasonable. Igor Pro is commercial package and current direction in SAS software is clearly towards non-commercial platforms. I do not want to dwell too much on the other packages so I do not misrepresent them, but as author of Irena I think I can provide some background to help potential users. As far as I can say none of them is specifically bio-package, but each contains at least some tools which can be useful to bio community. There is really not much competition among these packages, as each is targeted slightly differently. For few years the authors of these packages are trying to improve interoperability among these packages - with limited success. There are three major sources of SAS software for Igor Pro in the US - NIST, APS (Irena/Nika/Indra, this audience needs to consider only Irena), and ORNL (Ken Littrell). Probably they are related to this publication by S.R. I could not find these utilities online (may be I didn't look well enough). Sometimes while writing a note the Markdown preview won't show the text changes I had just made to the note. ![]() ![]() There is no Markdown editing support (eg auto-listing bullet points) which every other iOS Markdown editor or notetaker-including Apple Notes-has. There are unnecessary text file options (all that should be provided are plain text/Markdown) having those options means having to choose a format every time a note is created-a default option in Settings would be better. Sometimes I end up with copies of the same note in different folders: moving a note from an Inbox sometimes makes a copy instead. Enabling Face ID means adding a note via 3D Touch from the home screen will not work. The thumbnails of files are occasionally wrong more than once I've deleted a file thinking it was something else. If you combine themes with the "Automatically pick an accent color from my background" feature, you'll get a nice dynamic experience in Windows where your colors and wallpaper change as often as you'd like. These themes are really RSS feeds that bring down fantastic free wallpapers. Themes can be downloaded by just searching for "Windows themes" or "Windows 8 themes." I like the "Best of Bing" themes that include wallpaper from popular Bing backgrounds. That's a bummer because it's one of my favorite features. I like to mix it up, but that's what's nice about the Start menu, you can make it your own. Desktop Apps can be small or medium, and Windows 10 Store Apps can be small, medium, wide, or large. You can right click on any app and set their tile size. I prefer apps that I use a lot, but also apps that have a pleasant Live Tile. Pin a bunch of apps, but not just any app. I like a 2/3s of the screen style "not a start screen but still a big menu" look, myself. Vocals are an important part of music production. Check out our article on how to equalize vocals here. They play a major role in making the song sit properly with the instruments that are played in the background. This precise ability to make changes puts equalization as one of the important techniques to learn as a beginner music producer.Įqualizers are used mostly in shaping the vocal performances in a song. If you have a track where there are background noises in the low end of the spectrum, you can remove them easily and precisely without affecting the actual vocal performance recorded in the track. ![]() The ability of an equalizer is quite underrated. This gave advancements in the area of side chaining, which is a balancing technique used to adjust two instruments that share the same frequency range. The ability of an equalizer to make massive improvements in the quality of the track changed the music industry. What is an equalizer?Īn equalizer is software or hardware equipment used to make minute alterations to massive changes in the frequency spectrum of an instrument.Įqualizers have made a huge difference in the lives of mixing engineers to make precise changes in the frequency spectrum.Įqualizers can work through the frequency spectrum and find the changes that are required from 20 Hz to 20 kHz.Įqualizers are used for a variety of purposes including cleaning up the low end of a high-pitched vocal and cleaning up the high end of a bass guitar. In this article, I will walk you through an in-depth analysis of what an equalizer is and how to get yourself around it. You have to take into account how it stacks up against other equalizers and what the internal elements of it are. Just knowing that the audio equalizer works around frequencies will not get you far. These frequency bands can be manipulated by filters to generate multiple modulations in the audio track. This was completely thrown out by the development of mixers and gave the creative freedom for mixing engineers to do wonders with the audio tracks.Īn audio equalizer works by controlling the frequency bands across a complete audio spectrum of an audio track. There was always pressure for engineers to record with absolute perfection as you can’t change much in the post-production. ![]() It also showed how much editing you can do in the post-production of a song.īefore the development of equalizers, the sounds recorded always depended on the pre-recording sessions. ![]() The development of such mixer boards became a game-changer in the quality of the songs produced. The switch from knobs to faders started right there. This truly revolutionized the production studios in the early 1970s and lead to the development of mixer boards with multiple faders, controlling multiple bands of frequencies. They developed to the point of having multiple knobs to turn for each band in a frequency spectrum.
![]() ![]() I found it of great use against enemies that used larger weapons, and when you level it up by spending your skill points, it’s a weapon of mass destruction. Like a bo staff, it’s great for defensive stances and ranged attacks, but because it can detach and act like a larger nunchaku, it takes some time to master and wield this weapon proficiently. One of the new weapons bestowed upon me was the Splitstaff. Much of the base game mechanics have carried over into this expansion such as the leveling up system of your character and weapons, but you will have access to new guardian spirits, weapon variants, and more. The coastal region is a complete boneyard of wrecked ships that tells a tale of a hardened-battle that took place long before you got there. With Tengu’s Disciple, you seamlessly travel back in time to the seaside region of Yashima after finding the sword of Yoshitune, a powerful Samurai that led his men to this region. From there, you will be able to navigate to the Yashima coastal region on the map to partake in this amazing add-on. First and foremost, to access Tengu’s Disciple DLC, you must first complete the main campaign in Nioh 2. Now, these new missions and stories don’t necessarily expand on what we played in the base game, but it acts as a side-story to what we’ve come to know in Nioh 2. The crabs are pretty irritating to fight due to them being impervious to damage from the front, but the rest of the new enemy types are fun and challenging new obstacles to learn how to deal with.Nioh 2 is in my top 5 games of the year, and with Tengu’s Disciple, the first of three DLC add-ons to build upon the lore of Nioh 2, I was more than excited to die a thousand deaths in-game. Spread all throughout its 10 missions are a fairly large handful of new enemy types, including giant crab yokai with Groucho Marx facial hair gross fleshy monstrosities called Nuppeppo that have a nasty tendency to suck you up and spit you out like a nightmarish version of Kirby nastier versions of the monkey-like Enki enemies called Kiryokis and more small variations on other existing enemies. I ended up using my Splitstaff/Switchglaive build all throughout the DLC, which took me about 12 hours total if you include some backtracking to find a trio of items required to unlock one of the missions. ![]() Aesthetically, it brings back memories of playing Ninja Gaiden with the Lunar staff, but even beyond that its range is fantastic, it's really good at inflicting elemental status ailments, and it offers a completely different style of play compared to my other main weapon, the Switchglaive, all while still allowing me to utilize powerful Onmyo magic. Once I got over the initial learning curve and built up some skill points that could be invested in the extremely strong multi-hitting attacks of the Splitstaff, I learned to really like it. ![]() Hold the button down too long though and you’ll drop the combo, so there’s a special rhythm to attacks with the Splitstaff that just doesn’t exist with other weapons. It relies very heavily on its active skills which are unlocked deep into the skill tree, and beyond that, it also has a unique quirk in that if you hold down the attack button slightly, the staff will transform, extending out and dealing an extra hit. The Splitstaff is a tricky weapon to master, and early on, it actually didn’t click very well with me. The big new draw is the addition of the Splitstaff, a new weapon type that scales primarily with Onmyo Magic, giving those who choose to specialize in Onmyo Magic a much needed secondary weapon type to accompany the Switchglaive. There are some cool cutscenes that set up some of the boss battles, but like Nioh 2’s main story, the plot in The Tengu’s Disciple is an afterthought largely just used to frame the action.īut man, oh man, is that action still as good as ever – and The Tengu’s Disciple only serves to add new wrinkles on top of that layer of excellence. Your character finds a dagger at a shrine that suddenly transports them back in time to the Heian period, where they join forces with real life Japanese historical figures Minamoto no Yoshitsune and the warrior monk, Benkei. The Tengu’s Disciple essentially fits into Nioh 2 as a side story that takes place after the events of the main game. If you’re up to the challenge, Nioh 2 is no doubt one of the most difficult and rewarding games of this generation. It’s depth is impressive, even though that can also make it feel a little overwhelming due to how much time must be spent managing Nioh 2’s many systems. Its stellar combat is elevated by the addition of Soul Cores, Burst Counters, and the ways in which those two main new mechanics affect enemy AI and how you approach battles. Nioh 2 is an impressive evolution of its predecessor, strengthening everything that was already great, while mostly leaving its already existing issues alone.
